Help Jonathan return to life as it could be.

We are Jonathan Bryan and Karra Sloan Edgar-Boswell. After becoming afflicted with crippling neuropathic pains in early 2021, Jonathan became unable to continue working. As the neuropathy progressed he unfortunately became mostly sedentary during June 2021, which led to a clot forming in his left leg. Before we were able to meet with a physician, a fragment of the clot dislodged and traveled to his lung, causing a Pulmonary Embolism, a blockage in the arteries of his lung.
We rushed to the ER when violent stabbing pains seized his chest. After 26 hours in the ER, an ultrasound revealed the DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis, or blood clots) in the legs, and a CT scan revealed the Pulmonary Embolism.

The hospital's assigned pulmonologist did nothing to remove the fluid, nor to insert an arterial filter, nor to proceed with surgical removal of the DVT. Instead, Jonathan was discharged with a very delayed follow-up appointment, which allowed time for clots to make their way into the Brain causing several strokes and some irreparable damage, although this wouldn't have been discovered until soon after.

A month later, during a neurology check-up, Jonathan was experiencing an unusual difficulty breathing and a loss of sensation and control on the right side of his body, when the nurse recommended that we go straight to the emergency room. It was decided that an MRI was absolutely and immediately necessary.

MRI BRAIN:
IMPRESSION:
"...Patchy multifocal acute infarcts at the bilateral MCA/ACA and MCA/PCA watershed territories. Abnormal at the left superior frontal parietal area suggests petechial hemorrhages..."

Tubes were surgically inserted to remove the many liters of fluid over the course of about two continuous weeks by bedside.

The final discharge estimates my current diagnosis to be an undifferentiated autoimmune disease with an as of yet to be determined diagnosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Systemic lupus erythematosus is a long-term (chronic) disease that can effect many parts of the body. it can damage the skin, joints, blood vessels, brain, kidneys, lungs, heart, and other internal organs. it causes pain, irritation and inflammation.

Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease. With this type of disease, the body's defense system mistakenly attacks normal tissues instead of attacking germs and abnormal growths.

The cause of this condition is unknown.

Prior to my discharge I was prescribed a step-down regimen of Prednisone, a corticosteroid used to treat my autoimmune disorder, which also forced me to gain significant amounts of weight in a very short period of time (mostly in the form of salination due to the salt water retention caused by the drug.) along with several doses of Methyltrexate, which came with many unusual and uncomfortable side effects including deterioration of muscle. This significantly limited mobility and increased the need for a long term physical therapy and recovery plan.

I am currently mobile only with the use of a walker or wheelchair. I have lost a bit of sensation and motor control on the right side of my body, but the true extent of the damage won't be fully evident until further into physical therapy.

No official diagnosis will be determined until results return from certain bloodwork. Therefore, I cannot qualify for Disability financial assistance. I have, however, been blessed enough to have obtained adequate financial assistance to get us along through to the end of October. Unfortunately it may likely take much longer before I am physically fit to return to a normal lifestyle, which is why we are here.

We can expect there to be many follow-ups with various specialist and prescription costs along with it. Already our total prescription cost exceeds $800 per month once our temporary financial assistance expires, which is far more than we can reasonably afford.

It has been a complete fortune to have had fallen into the hands of such a wonderful medical staff. I owe my life to all of them. Most of all, I wouldn't be alive and recovering so well without the care, concern (and patience) of my lovely Wife, Karra Sloan. She keeps me eyes on the horizon and my head above water. Thank you all so much!
