My close friend Jonathan Cáceres, originally from Peru, has been held in ICE detention for the past six months. During this time, he has been separated from his young son, his work, and the community that cares about him.

Jonathan is a hardworking man who supported himself as a short-order cook and cashier at a local restaurant. Whenever he could, he took on extra side jobs to make ends meet and provide for his family. He lived in a small Airbnb on our property, working long hours and staying close so he could spend time with his little boy.

I am Jonathan’s closest friend here in the United States, and I am starting this fundraiser on his behalf with his permission because he urgently needs legal help.

We have found an experienced immigration attorney who is ready to file a habeas corpus petition, a legal action that challenges prolonged detention and could allow Jonathan to be released while his case moves forward. This may be his best chance to return to his son and rebuild his life.

The attorney’s fee is $6,000, which Jonathan cannot afford while being detained.

Funds raised will go directly toward:

• Hiring the immigration attorney

• Filing the habeas corpus petition

• Legal costs required to challenge his detention
