Help Jonathan afford school in the United States
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jonathan Mafra. I'm of humble origin, and I've always been a great student in the public school system in Brazil. It was not easy to get here. I have struggled to overcome the social barriers of poverty and racism and succeed. I went to law school as a government fellow. I passed the Brazilian Bar Exam before graduating from college and opened a practice here in Brazil. When the pandemic hit I lost my practice and my family has struggled to make ends meet.
With limited opportunities in Brazil, I believe that starting over in the US will provide my family with the stability we yearn for. I recently applied and was accepted to Penn State University's graduate law program. I received scholarships covering the cost of my tuition but am still required to cover the cost of living.
In order to accept their offer I am required to provide proof that I can afford cost of living expenses ($16,000!) and this is beyond my ability.
With your support this great opportunity will not be missed! Through this study experience I will reach my full potential and become able to help other students with stories similar to mine find the way to the same opportunities.
