Do you know what it’s like in the moment you realize what you want to do for the rest of your life? I do. The first time I ever stepped onstage was in 8th grade during a UIL Theatre competition. I had only ever performed in front of my two teachers and few friends during rehearsal. To then be onstage for the first time in front of an audience, with a portion of our show relying on me was terrifying. But as I walked onstage and begun my scene —something remarkably new happened. As I stepped into my scene, my fear melted away, replaced by a surge of confidence I had never felt before. The scene, the show, the energy of the stage—it clicked. When I exited, I felt more alive than ever. In that moment, I knew: acting was what I was meant to do.
Now, in my pursuit of turning my passion for acting into a career, I am seeking the opportunity to attend the Stephen F. Austin State University Summer Theatre Workshop. At this summer workshops I would get hands-on training in a college-level environment, working with experienced professionals to deepen my craft and storytelling ability.
SFA is widely regarded as top-tier schools for theatre with incredibly strong programs; it's often listed in the top 12 colleges for theatre in Texas. At this summer camp I would receive workshops in acting, directing, movement, voice, and rehearsal for various performing opportunities like scenes from Period/Stylized shows and a full one act play. This educational workshops would allow me to refine my skills, expand my knowledge, and strengthen my technique. Not only would this elevation of my skill help my growth as a performer, but it would also expose me to a college level environment—better preparing me for future auditions and my professional career.
