I was admitted into the hospital on 12/20 to surgically remove a mass that had grown on my esophagus. When attempting to do so, a small hole was torn in my esophagus. To allow the tear to repair itself, it was necessary to stop all food and drink intake by mouth with hopes of it sealing itself in about 5 days. However 5 days later it was still leaking. The doctors then decided to put a stint but would still need to restrict food and water intake by mouth. This is a slow healing process that could take 4-8 weeks. I was released home from the hospital 28 days later on 01/18. I have been receiving nutrition through IV called TPN. “ (TPN) is a method of feeding that bypasses the gastrointestinal tract. Fluids are given into a vein to provide most of the nutrients the body needs. The method is used when a person cannot or should not receive feedings or fluids by mouth.

My insurance has indicated they would not cover TPN while at home. The daily cost for a 24 hr bag of TPN is $130–$150.00. $150.00x7=$1,050.00x4=$4200.00. I have also started dialysis 3 times a week.

Jon is also on the registered Kidney transplant list He has to overcome this to be able to receive a kidney, when a match is found.
