Update: In Loving Memory of Jon Callahan
Donation protected
We recently lost one of our own. Jon Callahan passed away on the evening of April 28, 2025, following a series of strokes and 10 days in the ICU. Despite the efforts of his care team and the love surrounding him, the damage was too great.
Jon was an incredible father, a loyal friend, and a true force of nature. He loved life and had double—maybe even triple—the energy of most. On any given day, Jon might surf four hours in the morning, surf again with his son in the afternoon, and then spend another four hours freediving in the evening. He got in the water more than anyone we knew—often alone, always fearless. He dropped into huge waves and lived for the thrill.
He was a hardcore climber, a swing dance instructor, and a passionate adventurer who inspired countless others—from kayaking whitewater rivers in Colorado to race sailing, paddle surfing, surfing, and freediving in San Diego. He gave of himself fully in life, and in death he continued that legacy by donating his heart, kidneys, and liver—saving the lives of others even in his final moments.
Jon is survived by his beloved wife, Amy, and their two amazing children, Cassidy (15) and Collin (12). This fundraiser, originally created to support Jon’s recovery, will now help cover funeral expenses and support the Callahan family as they navigate this heartbreaking transition.
A celebration of life and paddle out is being planned—details will be shared soon. In the meantime, Amy invites everyone to flood Facebook with your favorite photos, stories, and videos of Jon. Celebrate him. Remember him. Crazy, silly, generous, brilliant—he was all of these and more.
Thank you for surrounding the Callahan family with your love and support. Jon is deeply missed and will never be forgotten.
