On August 8, Jon suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while coaching his son’s mountain bike team. The past couple of days have been incredibly scary, but also filled with miracle upon miracle upon miracle.

Jon was blessed to have an Emergency Department physician who was affiliated with the bike team nearby, along with a nurse who happened to be jogging by. They immediately started CPR and were able to keep blood flowing to Jon’s brain until paramedics arrived. The paramedics were then able to use a defibrillator to get his heart beating again.

Jon was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors worked to stabilize him, including placing a temporary pump to help his heart circulate blood. He was then transferred to a cardiac center in the Twin Cities, where he remained intubated and sedated.

We were hopeful but braced for a long and uncertain wait.

Thankfully Jon (& God) had other plans.

By early the next morning, he was awake, communicating, and breathing on his own. His breathing tube was removed, and later that day his heart was strong enough for the temporary pump to be removed. By that evening, he was sitting up, walking around the hospital, and starting to understand what had happened.

It is hard to put into words how incredible his progress has been. We truly believe it is a miracle and an answer to *so many prayers*.

While we are incredibly encouraged by how well Jon is doing, there is still a long road ahead. There are many unknowns about his recovery, including what additional treatment and rehabilitation he may need. There will also be unexpected medical expenses, time away from work for both Jon and Brooke, and other costs as Jon and his family navigate the months ahead.

We’re asking for your help so the family can focus on Jon and his recovery rather than the financial burden that comes with an unexpected medical crisis.

If you’re able to donate, every amount will help. If you’re not in a position to give, please share this fundraiser and, most importantly, continue to for Jon.

The family has been surrounded by so much love, prayers, texts, meals, and care!

Thank you for standing with Jon, his wife Brooke and their whole family and for continuing to pray for a full and complete recovery. We believe in a great God who is powerfully at work.
