Help Jon Alcabes Produce His Comedy Special

Donation protected
Dear friends, family and supporters,
After 11 years in comedy, I am planning on recording and releasing my first special this year. I’m filming it on Friday April 25th in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and I hope you can make it!
Stand up comedy has been a huge part of my life since I was a 19-year-old college freshman, performing several times a week just about every week. I’ve produced my own shows, and travelled around the country performing in various cities and on several notable festivals, including the Limestone Comedy Festival in Bloomington Indiana and the Flyover Comedy Festival in St. Louis, Missouri. Creating a special has always been a goal of mine, and now that I have a decade of experience under my belt and 45 minutes of polished material ready, this feels like an opportune moment.
I’m recording it at Showroom on Scholes, an intimate arts and performance venue inside of a lofted Williamsburg apartment where my friends Adam and Leah live. I’ve been running comedy shows in this space for a few years now, which happen in rotation with other music/poetry/art shows in this space. Putting on these shows has been one of my favorite projects in comedy, and it feels like the perfect place to showcase the material I’ve been working on.
The special will be directed by Ben Kurzrock, and produced by Probably A Cult, a comedy group and award-winning filmmaking team based in Los Angeles.
Right now in comedy, it’s become increasingly common for comedians to put their specials out on YouTube. Whether it’s New York favorites like Courtney Maginnis and Django Gold with their debut specials ‘White Noise’ and ‘Bag Of Tricks’, or a veteran like Lewis Black self-releasing his 2023 special ‘Tragically I Need You’, more and more comedians are finding freedom in recording and releasing specials on their own, rather than going with labels and corporations. However, the process is not cheap, and that’s why I’m requesting your assistance in bringing this special to life.
I’m asking for $6000 for the production of this special. The expenses are as follows:
3 cameras
3 camera operators
1 Audio Engineer
Snacks/Meals for the Crew
Show Poster/Promotion
Editing/Post Production

Bottom line is, I’m really proud of the act I’ve built, and I want to show it to as many people as possible. By working with talented directors, editors and filmmakers, I think we can turn it into a [digestible] media project with reach. The main goal of the special is to continue building upon my current fanbase and career, and with your help I think that’s achievable.
Thanks so much for any support you’re welcome to give! Happy to answer any questions you may have.
