Hello, my name is Jolie Frisinger, and my boyfriend is Thomas Gable.
We’re both college students — I attend the University of Alabama, and Thomas studies at Shelton State. During our freshman year, we moved into what we thought was a great apartment complex. After being there for two years the unexpected happen,

Over the past few months, we began experiencing severe symptoms: constant headaches, itching, watery eyes, sneezing, difficulty breathing, coughing — you name it. It got so bad that we couldn’t even stay in our own home. Friends and family stopped visiting because the air made them sick, too.

Concerned, my parents ordered a toxicology report and the results were shocking. A normal air quality level is around 500 ng/L, but our apartment tested at 5,700 ng/L, an extremely severe range. We immediately saw a doctor, who confirmed inflammation in our sinuses and told us we had to move out as soon as possible.

We also spoke to a professional cleaner, who informed us that nearly everything we owned was contaminated. Because many of our belongings have porous surfaces, there’s no guaranteed way to remove the toxins — meaning the safest option was to throw everything away and start over.

Losing everything — our furniture, clothes, bed, towels, and personal items — has been absolutely devastating. I’m a full-time student working as a pharmacy technician at Publix Pharmacy, trying to keep up with classes and rebuild our lives at the same time. We tried reaching out to our renters insurance, in hope that they would accept our claim to replace everything, but they declined. They said they do not cover damages done due to toxic fumes, that they only cover losses due to fires. Leaving us with absolutely no idea how to afford this tragedy.

I’m not someone who usually asks for help, but I’ve never faced anything like this before. If you’re able to donate even $1, it would mean the world to me. Every contribution will go directly toward replacing essentials — clothes, furniture, food, and basic living supplies.

Thank you for reading and for any kindness you’re able to give. ❤️
