On May 15th, 2023, Joie Barillo and her parents' world were flipped upside-down. 16-year-old Joie was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. This is some of the most devastating news a parent can receive.

In early February of 2023, Joie developed a cough that was persistent. It was thought to just be a seasonal cough that would disappear; however, it remained after some time. They then noticed her losing weight rapidly, followed by the development of a lump on her neck. After many doctor visits, it was confirmed to her parents that this was every parent’s worst nightmare; she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She would need to immediately begin an intense course of chemotherapy over six months at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. Since her diagnosis, she has battled in the hospital against several complications related to beginning the treatment. This year was to be a fun-filled school year with many things to look forward to, her sweet 16 being one of them. While incredibly tough, Joie has remained resilient and positive regardless of her own world being completely changed.

We are starting this GoFundMe to help ease some of the financial burdens this horrific disease has brought upon her parents, Kim and Joe. Not only is this incredibly stressful on the body, mind, and spirit, but it is tough to have to think about having the means for the many doctors, treatments, travel, and other costs associated with fighting this battle. The Barillos have been there for so many and would give the shirt off their backs to help those in need, and anything that can be given to support them in this time of need would be incredible.
