Johnny’s Rainbow Foundation was created by Johnny’s family — Jack, Lisa, Mya, and Justin — in honor of their beloved son and brother. Johnny had Smith-Magenis Syndrome and autism, and in 2006, at just nine years old, he fell asleep and never woke up. His sudden passing left the family devastated, but determined to carry his spirit forward.

Johnny loved the book What Makes a Rainbow? His parents knew firsthand how difficult it could be to access the equipment, supports, and resources Johnny needed — especially when they weren’t covered by insurance. They created a foundation so that Johnny could continue helping his friends, and named it Johnny’s Rainbow Foundation.

It is the Foundation’s mission to help families with special needs children by providing them with financial support called a Rainbow Grant. The Rainbow Grant is intended to make a significant difference in the life of the special needs child by funding equipment, experiences, parent education, family counseling, therapy, or any other of the child’s needs.

For the past 19 years, we have been able to provide families with special strollers, adaptive beds, sensory equipment, swim lessons, weighted vests, and so much more. Every one of these gifts has reflected Johnny’s love, joy, and legacy.
