*UPDATE 07/12/25
A good friend of mine gave me a van! Finally a little light at the end of a tunnel. It’s going to take some work and some time to get it on the road but one step at a time.
Thats the bright side!
The not so bright side is that I’m having to move out of the house that I’ve been at for the last couple years with no definite or ‘permanent’ place to go at the moment.
While I’m open to ‘van life’ and couch surfing for a while, that’s not really the path that I wish to continue for the long term.
Sincere thanks to those who have helped to support me as I figure all this out.
Please share this page if you can.
*UPDATE 06/19/25
So the vehicle was officially totaled but the payout from insurance went to the title loan company (yes, ridiculous, I know….).
A friend of mine has offered a vehicle to me but I need to get it towed, running, registered and insured. It’s an older van (97 for Econoline) so I’m not sure how long it will last or what issues I’ll be dealing with in the near future.. but I’m more than grateful to receive it with heartfelt appreciation.
I’ve largely been left without transportation since the accident outside of the gracious lending of a vehicle for a week or so by another good friend (until it broke down) and a rental vehicle for a few days provided by the insurance company.
This whole situation has made it very difficult and sometimes impossible to work as much as I normally could and so this gofundme page remains.
Please don’t let the goal amount dissuade you from giving if you have an inclination to give. Even the smallest amount is helpful in this situation.
Thanks for taking the time to read and consider.*
Most of my friends know me as Johnny Thomas (or JT).
About 3 years ago, I started my journey as an entrepreneur of sorts doing all kinds of interesting work.
Handyman services, log cabin renovation, deck building, live event host, sound man, musician. These are some of the things that I’ve been doing to make ends meet as since starting this freelancing adventure.
So far it has been a very good albeit challenging experience navigating the journey. Some weeks are very busy working 6 or 7 days a week.. including occasional night work.
Other weeks are very slow to the point of wondering if I’ll have enough gas in my tank to even get to the next job.
Somehow I’ve managed to do all of this with the sweet reliability of my 2013 Dodge Journey R/T with minimum issues or setbacks.
This was true until a recent accident which left my vehicle inoperable and ‘totaled’ and myself with some very real new aches and pains.
It’s going to take awhile to get all of the insurance stuff figured out but in case anyone is wondering, the police report states that the officer who came to the scene of the accident said on the report that he is of the opinion that the other driver is at fault (which is absolutely the case).
It’s been said that ‘Pride comes before a fall..’ which is fine because I really don’t have much to swallow as I’m writing this.
I doubt that whatever settlement amount I may get from the accident will cover much more than (hopefully) pay off what I owe to the title pawn company.
Yes.. it’s been that rough.
To be clear, I’m not asking anyone to give what they aren’t able or willing to give in a clear conscience.
That said, please do bear in mind that any and every thing helps.. and if you can’t help in this way right now, please feel free to share with anyone who might be able to.
In good faith,
Johnny
