Help Bring "If 6 Was 9" to Burning Man 2025!
The Vision
"If 6 Was 9" is a human-scale interactive art installation that transforms the desert landscape into a playground of wonder and perspective. This striking spiral sculpture invites participants to explore the fluid nature of reality, challenging our perceptions of what we think we know.
What Makes This Special
Scale & Impact: Standing as a mysterious presence in the desert, this sculpture creates an unforgettable landmark that can be seen from great distances
Interactive Experience: The piece invites climbing, sitting, and contemplation, becoming a gathering place for connection and play
Day & Night Magic: By day, the vibrant green texture creates a surreal contrast against the stark desert landscape. By night, stunning LED ultra violet lighting transforms it into a glowing beacon of art and community
Symbolic Meaning: The title references the Jimi Hendrix song of the same name, and the idea that perspective shapes reality - what appears one way from one angle becomes something entirely different from another
The Challenge
After successful previous showings at the Venice Afterburn in October 2024, and the Burning Man LA Regional, "BEquinox" in May 2025, we need to rebuild and transport this installation from Los Angeles to Black Rock City. This is no small feat - the sculpture requires a complete re-build and re-surfacing as well as a new, sturdier base to handle the playa. The clock is ticking!
Reconstruction Costs:
Materials: Lumber for burner-resistant framework, synthetic fur covering, structural hardware
LED Lighting System: Professional-grade weather-sealed lighting, controllers, and power systems
Platform/Base: Engineered foundation to ensure stability in desert conditions
Transportation & Installation:
Transport: Rental truck to transport from LA to Nevada, this is a larger expense than anticipated.
Installation Crew: Small rigging and assembly team
Tools & Equipment: Machinery rental for installation and removal
Your Impact
Every dollar helps make this vision a reality:
$50 - Covers basic materials and hardware
$100 - Funds LED lighting components
$250 - Sponsors major structural materials
$500 - Supports transportation costs
$1000+ Major Supporter. Bless!
Why This Matters
Burning Man art installations like "If 6 Was 9" create moments of wonder that stay with participants long after the dust settles. They foster community, inspire creativity, and remind us that art has the power to transform not just spaces, but perspectives.
This project represents hundreds of hours of design, engineering, and craftsmanship - all donated freely to create a gift for the Burning Man community. Your support helps cover the real costs of materials and logistics that make these magical experiences possible.
