UPDATE FROM DAVIDA & JOHNETTE - OCTOBER 5, 2021:
As previously mentioned, our Mom, Elisa Maria Janney, had a drastic crisis on 9/13, with multiple strokes, ongoing seizures, 2 major blockages, pneumonia and a big heart attack (none of which she had had before) on top of her chronic health conditions have been a huge blow. In-patient hospice became a clear necessity based on Mama’s condition and her wishes. However, neither St Margaret’s (her nursing home which has in patient hospice) nor any similar options were going to become available anywhere in New Orleans, near in time after Hurricane Ida.
We were able to get her in a good place in Baton Rouge on 9/21, that makes two weeks, today. Mama has been conscious a good portion of the time, all things considered, enjoying visits and music. However, she’s been unable to speak, swallow or control motor skills. She is in the process of transitioning, identified by certain observable traits. Mama has always done better and or gone farther than anything medical experts say she can or can’t do, but still, it is only a matter of time. My sister and I are nearly always with her, we alternate spending the night and then we are both here during the day.
We are still away from our jobs while caring for our Mom during this very painful time, your donations will continue to help cover travel, food, rent and general bills that keep stacking up while we are away from home and work. I am raising funds to help support my dearest friends Johnette & Davida Janney as they travel to different Louisiana medical facilities and hospitals to care for and make medical decisions for their mom, Mrs. Elisa.
Mrs. Elisa - who we affectionately refer to simply as Mama - is a cancer patient (Carcinoid tumor in her Duodenum) who was forced to evacuate from her medical care facility in New Orleans days after Hurricane Ida hit the state and destroyed the power grid that serviced her convalescent home. Mrs. Elisa was a Surgical Technologist who proudly served her community for 33 years at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge.
My best friend Johnette had flown into New Orleans a week prior in order to escort her mom to some critical medical appointments (which have since been cancelled without any known reschedule dates.)
While at a temporary facility in Ferriday, Louisiana (nearly 200 miles from New Orleans), Mama began having seizures and was rushed to a hospital a few days ago, where she remained in the ER because there are literally NO ICU BEDS available in the state. Test results have shown that Mrs. Elisa suffered a heart attack, has pneumonia and is fighting sepsis... and MIRACULOUSLY, today, her vitals were all showing improvement and she was finally air-lifted to the Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport-Monroe Medical Center, which has better diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
Johnette & Davida are both away from their jobs while caring for their mom during these very uncertain times, and it's become a strain on their income and savings. I am sincerely asking for you help in supporting my hard-working, strong loving and incredibly kind and caring friends -my sisters- as they continue to be there to support and help Mama fight through her ailments to live another day.
Your donations will help cover travel, food, and hotel stays along with general bills that continue to stack up while both sisters are away from home and work, caring for their mother.
