On February 27 John Westermayer was involved in an off-road motorcycle accident and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital St Louis where he is recovering from his injuries. The financial burden for multiple surgeries, hospital costs and the helicopter ride will be devastating to John who has no medical insurance. The cost for the helicopter ride alone exceeds $25,000. We need the assistance of the Missouri Mudder family and dirt bike community to support John as he recovers by helping pay the bills.
We all know John as an easy-going, always has an opinion hard worker who would drop everything to help a friend. His passion for dirt bikes, trail preparation and event execution are unparalled in the club. John is an active Missouri Mudder member who volunteers his time at the park to give back to our sport. This is our opportunity to pay-back John for all that he has done for the Missouri Mudders.
Enjoying a weekend break from construction work John met other Missouri Mudder volunteers with dirt bikes at St Joe State Park in Park Hills, Missouri to prepare the trail for an upcoming motorcycle special event at the park. As the group traversed the trail at a slow pace John became seperated from his motorcycle when the throttle stuck open pitching him from the bike and into a tree stopping his momentum. While the helmet and safety equipment John was wearing saved his life, he sufferred a fractured pelvis and multiple lacerations. He laid on the ground in the woods for 1 1/2 hours before EMT support could move him to the helicopter for transport to Mercy StLouis Hospital.
While John is out of the woods and recovering in the hospital from injuries, he is not "out of the woods" regarding the cost of this adventure. Funds received from this project will be used to pay medical expenses and the emergency helicopter transport charge.
