Since 1997, John Vernon has served as the full time director of Jesus Place Inner City Mission, an organization that brings hope, help and restoration to those experiencing homelessness in Atlanta. Even before he was the director, since childhood John assisted his father Jim in ministering to those in deep need. John has given his life to serving Jesus by serving and helping others. Over the past 14 months, John has led a food program in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, providing groceries to over 340 families in need.

Now, John and his family need our help. In January, John, his wife Paula, and two of their three children were diagnosed with COVID-19. Paula and the kids recovered quickly, but John’s cough and breathing problems lingered. When checking for COVID related pneumonia, x-rays showed that there were nodules in John’s lung. Eventually, a biopsy was done on the dominant nodule that was determined to be a malignant carcinoid tumor.  Because of the location of this cancerous tumor, secondary tumors and affected lymph nodes, he is now facing a full pneumonectomy, the removal of his left lung.

The Jesus Place board is fully supportive of the Vernon family, but they will be facing many extra expenses as a result of the upcoming surgery and recovery period.

This fund will help with general living expenses as well as medical costs not covered by other sources. Of course, we ask that you pray for healing as well as give.
