Help John Ruiz with medical expenses!

On February 16th, John Michael Ruiz had an unfortunate accident that caused him to fall and sustain a serious brain injury. As a result, he has been suffering with intracranial hemorrhage (bleeding from the brain). John was rushed to the hospital where he stayed for testing and monitoring for multiple nights. Fortunately, he has stabilized and was released and is currently being taken care of by family. He is still in an immense amount of pain that includes severe headaches that make it almost impossible to move, eat, speak, or even rest. During this time, we wish for John to be able to focus on healing as his spirits are low, but unfortunately due to the severity of his injury and time spent in the hospital he is now faced with unforeseen financial burdens. John has been a cook at Green Mesquite BBQ in Austin, TX for 6 years. Along with spending time with family and friends, and making music, BBQing is something John is extremely passionate about. Anybody who has ever eaten at Green Mesquite can thank John for their delicious experience! However, John does not have medical insurance. At this point, it is safe to assume that the costs of his hospital stay, physical therapies, medication, and additional treatments moving forward are going to be overwhelming and impossible to pay out of pocket.

John’s family is asking for support from the public to help John through this trying time by helping him cover his financial costs. The average cost of a 3-day hospital stay is $30,000 (Healthcare.gov). This does not include everything else that was required to ensure that John lived. The realities of such debt can be detrimental to John’s livelihood from here on out. And the truth is, John is too proud to ask for help and hates the idea of inconveniencing others. John is a kind-hearted man who works very hard and has served his Austin community for years. He is truly loved by many.

We know it would be challenging to meet such an extreme goal, but we are asking for anything to help alleviate John from these financial burdens. As he continues to heal, we wish to help and support him in anyway we can. We ask for your support as well. Please help us, help him.
