Help John Roy's Academic Journey to UC Davis
Donation protected
Hi, my name is John Roy Akumu, a 31 year old Kenyan who is passionate about Transportation Systems. Having worked on design and construction of road projects across Kenya and Somalia, and also travelled a bit to Uganda and Tanzania, I have an ever growing desire to improve economies of developing nations through better transport infrastructure and models.
Following an amazing experience as a Mandela Washington Fellow, a program sponsored by the US Department of State, I have been working on a situational analysis of transport models across African cities and just recently got a prestigious offer to undertake my postgraduate studies at University of California, Davis with a full funding offer to pay for my tuition and stipend once I start my studies.
- However, the only condition for the fellowship is for me to get myself to the US and enroll for my studies. I am therefore seeking the assistance of family, friends and well wishers to help me raise $5,000 enable me afford Visa, Immunization, Flight fees and up keep costs for the first 2 weeks in Davis as I wait for my fellowship offer to take effect.
The goal of $5,000 is a little steep as it represents 100% of the annual salary of an average mid-career Kenyan professional. As such my personal savings can only go so far and your assistance towards this goal will go a long way into helping a young transport enthusiast learn from one of the best universities out there and hopefully positively impact how we design transport systems back in Kenya and other developing nations in Africa.
NB: The funds are currently being accepted by Elly Kirwa on my behalf until I start my classes in fall.
