My loving husband John McCormack has always been my rock, and for the last 30 years he has supported me and taken care of me through my many battles with lupus, severe rheumatoid arthritis and other health problems. In the spring of 2018, our world was turned upside down.

Last June, John and our son Andrew along with a group of good friends set out on a fishing adventure to a remote lake in the backwoods of Algoma. The trip started out very well as they made their way into the back-country. A nice day of portaging, and walking through some of Northern Ontario's most beautiful forestland.

By the end of day 2, the guys were relaxing around the campfire enjoying a nice feed of freshly caught trout, oblivious of what was to come.

In the morning on day 4 John woke up with a sore foot, and by the early afternoon the pain had traveled up towards his knee. At this point the guys knew that they had to go for help. The following morning just before 6am a Coast Guard helicopter had arrived and took John to Health Sciences North hospital in Sudbury, where they found an aneurysm behind his left knee. John underwent a femoral bypass on his left leg, but unfortunately it was too late for this surgery and amputation was the only option.

Now John is in need of a prosthetic leg so that he can start walking again. The cost of the prosthetic leg is more than $52,000. The Ontario government's Assistive Devices Program will cover $7,200, his Greensheild Insurance will cover $20,000, and the War Amps is willing to donate another $1000. Being on a fixed income we are unable to afford the remaining $24,000. John wants to get upright again and regain his mobility to help him manage his daily activities, and get his independence back.  All donations to this campaign will be used to buy my husband John his new prosthesis.
