Help John Recover from Brain Surgery
John Couchene, a 47 year old self-employed carpenter in Ontario Canada, was diagnosed with a mass in his brain in March 2019. It was determined to be a very large abscess, probably originating from a sinus infection. The abscess took up nearly 1/4 of the space in his skull. The day he was taken to the hospital by ambulance his body was shutting down and his heart rate was 30. Had he been allowed to just stay in bed as he wanted, he most certainly would not have survived the night. Surgery was done the next morning and most of the abscess was removed. He was started on IV antibiotics. A follow-up scan in May revealed that there was still some abscess remaining and additional surgery was performed May 21st.
John had been struggling to work for some weeks prior to the diagnosis without understanding what was wrong. He has been unable to work at all since March. As a self-employed individual, he has no sick benefits to fall back on. He and his 17 year old daughter are struggling.
We are trying to help get him through until we know what his long-term prognosis is and until (God willing) he is able to return to work. Any donations to help with utilities, groceries and rent will be greatly appreciated. His recovery may be lengthy, but we are all hopeful he will recover and be able to return to work.
