About four years ago, I suffered a broken back and was diagnosed with Degenerate Back Disease, Advanced Degenerate Disease, and Advanced Neuropathy. Years ago, I was also diagnosed with Factor 5 Liden, a chronic blood clotting disease. Not being able to work forced me to sell personal items and deplete my savings. To be closer to family, I moved to Kentucky, hoping for support and a fresh start.
Unfortunately, my health challenges continued. I suffered a Pulmonary Embolism and almost lost my life. During a hospital stay for clots in my legs and lungs, I was life-flighted to another hospital and coded on the flight. I underwent an ablation and had a long hospital stay. After discharge, I went through the process again a week later, contracted Necrotizing Pneumonia, and nearly died a second time. During that stay, I had two rounds of Sepsis, E. coli, and several other infections. After moving to Kentucky, I had another clotting episode, which forced the amputation of my left leg. The amputation caused some infection, but fortunately, the doctor was able to keep it below the knee to give me a better shot with prosthetics. Currently, I am at my mom's house recovering. The doctor bills are piling up, and my mom is elderly and not really able to care for me.
After my amputation, I spent over three months at an inpatient rehab facility healing from infection in my wound. I was discharged from there on Friday, 4/10/2026. Now, I am out of Medicare rehab days and need more care that Medicare won't provide.
I intend to use the funds for medical bills, physical therapy, and medical equipment to recover, then a prosthetic leg. I do have Medicare but have not received Medicaid coverage yet. The little income I have from disability is used up by general bills, medical bills, and prescriptions. Now that my Medicare rehab days are used up, I need additional care and therapy that Medicare won't cover. Any support means the world to me as I work toward recovery and independence.
