Please join in supporting John Paulsen, affectionately known as 'DJ Stepchild,' as he continues to recover from a terrible sequence of medical misfortunes. Help to remove concerns about looming medical bills so he can focus on his ongoing recovery.

 

Backstory:

In April, John broke his leg while enjoying a weekend away and required surgery to place a rod in his leg. That injury kept him out of work until August. No sooner was he back to work than Hurricane Ida swept into NYC and flooded John's basement apartment in Sunset Park. He spent Labor Day Weekend in the aftermath of the cleanup -- losing his brand new couch, his wardrobe & extensive sneaker collection, and his DJ livelihood: laptop, albums & sound system.

 

During that clean up John injured his finger. It seemed trivial at first, but that cut became a sepsis, staphylococcal and streptococcal infection. Hard to say, harder to kick. Unfortunately, John hadn't been back to work long enough to qualify for state disability. In the days, weeks and months to come he faced down:

- Initial 7-day hospital stay.

- Release only to be readmitted to the ER for another 7-day stay.

- Released conditionally to a supervised environment for 8 weeks of IV antibiotics.

 

John is now medically cleared to start getting his life back together. From September 2-December 1 he has amassed over $4,000 in medical bills on top of the personal losses from the flood.
