My friend John Hill was hospitalized for an infection in his foot, had surgery that removed a major portion of that foot, and is now in rehab.
When John's rehab is completed, he cannot return to the space he rents from a good friend, as his bathroom is one level below the main living area, and John may not be able to negotiate those ups and downs.
John's housemate has designed accessibility improvements, including access to a main level bathroom, with a private entrance, and a new walk-in shower, that will permit John to continue to live in this affordable space. John's friend has begun the demolition that will permit the accessibility improvements to be made.
The cost of these improvements is roughly $19,000; funds that John does not have. John's only income is Social Security.
John is a gentle soul who has given deeply of himself in many ways over the course of his life. Even as he is in rehab and is gravely concerned about whether he will be able to return home and where he will be able to live if he doesn't return to that home, John continues to give of himself, particularly in promoting the music of aspiring writers and performers whose music touches deeply and heals.
