About a year ago, John Kristensen -my close friend from childhood, husband and father of 3 children under the age of 7 - woke up with extreme pain in his back. He was rushed to the hospital and with a tumor in his kidneys, diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma. Removal of the kidney and treatment seemed to be successful, and we all were hopeful. But then a scan revealed that his cancer returned, and was aggressively spreading.
There was still hope - he qualified for a clinical trial at Dana Farbar, so he flew from Santa Barbara to Boston, where he's from originally. But things took a turn for the worse, namely a tumor in his spine which was causing extreme nerve pain, for which pain killers did very little. Tumors in his lungs, causing his oxygen levels to drop. A spike in his glucose, due to his type 1 diabetes which he contracted during the initial cancer and treatment. He's been fighting hard, trying to get to the starting line of the trial, but he's now at the point where he's going to fly back home to Santa Barbara, likely to say goodbye to his wife Tenley, and three children.
They are getting a medical plane to fly him, and it costs $19K. The family will need this money moving forward as John was the main source of income, so we'd like to reduce this financial burden. Can you give what you can? THANK YOU.
