Update from Jennifer:
I am struggling for words to share what is in my heart. How do you say my husband has passed? It was peaceful, calm, kind, held, painful, tender and a beautiful experience. On Monday morning John stepped out of his cancer body and stepped into the loving arms of many people waiting to welcome him home.
So many people came to our home, called, text and emailed so many kind words. It is beautiful to watch the culmination of his life. So many people talked about how he made them feel.
My heart is full of gratitude for the many hours of many hands lovingly contributing donations of time and money, food, yard work, hugs, phone calls, prayers, fasting, temple work and medical care.
The last choice John made here on earth was to suffer a little longer so his family could gather for a family prayer, sing his favorite song: Gethsemane and say goodbye. Then he quietly and calmly went home.
It will be a family burial at Veterans Memorial cemetery on June 24th. On June 25th at 10 am we will have his memorial. I will post the address as we get closer.
Not one single prayer went unanswered. God heard all, granted grace, held John in his hands, strengthened our family and got John home. Love you all so much. Now John is healed body and soul.
I would love to compile a book for my grandchildren and need your help. Here is a link for a Google document. Please write your favorite memory of John. I want his grandbabies to know who he is.

Update on John: A New Hurdle, A New Hope
We wanted to share an important update on John’s cancer journey—and why your support means more now than ever.
Recently, John underwent an MRI that revealed four very small spots on his brain. The doctors aren’t yet sure what these spots mean because they’re so small, but this new development has temporarily halted his participation in a promising drug trial.
The plan moving forward is this:
John will receive a dose or two of chemotherapy,
Then undergo radiation to treat the four spots,
And if all goes well, he may still qualify to begin the clinical trial that could offer him a fighting chance.
In the meantime, John and his wife have made the decision to temporarily relocate to Houston, Texas, so he can be closer to a top-tier cancer center and continue pursuing specialized treatments. While they are both still working remotely, the financial burden of this move—on top of ongoing medical expenses—is immense.
This is where your kindness can make a direct, life-changing impact.
Your donations help:
Cover travel and housing costs during this critical time away from home,
Offset lost income from time off for treatments and appointments,
Support access to specialized care that could save John's life.
John continues to face this journey with courage, faith, and his signature sense of humor. He’s fighting with everything he has—and knowing he’s not alone makes all the difference.
If you’ve already given, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If you’re able to give again or share this update with others, we would be so grateful. Every dollar, every prayer, and every share helps bring hope to John and his family.
Let’s continue to lift John up. Together, we can help carry the weight and remind him how loved and supported he truly is.
Original post:
If John Wind were writing this, he'd probably kick things off with a witty lung cancer joke to lighten the mood and make you smile. That’s just who he is—a man who can find laughter even in the toughest moments. But today, I want to tell you about the incredible person behind that humor and why your kindness could make all the difference.
John is a devoted dad to four sons who are starting families of their own, a proud grandpa to six (soon to be seven!) little ones, and a loving husband to his sweetheart of 30 years. If you’ve ever met John at church on a Sunday, you’ve likely been greeted with his warm smile, genuine interest in your life, and an offer to help however he could. That’s the kind of man John is—always giving, always caring.
In March 2024, the Wind family's world turned upside down when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. His only treatment option right now is grueling chemotherapy every three weeks. Despite this, John has continued working full-time to provide for his family. Working from home, he wraps himself in blankets on chemo days and pushes through the exhaustion. But last month, John exhausted his FMLA paid leave. Now, every hour he spends at chemo, follow-up appointments, or scans is deducted from his paycheck.
Recently, John received heartbreaking news: the cancer is spreading. He will likely need to pursue specialized treatment options—options that come with even greater financial strain.
This GoFundMe is our way of helping John focus on healing instead of worrying about finances. Your generosity will:
Offset the income he loses from time away for treatments and appointments.
Provide stability so John can rest and recover between chemo sessions.
Support him in seeking specialized cancer care that could give him a fighting chance.
John and his family have placed their trust in God’s goodness and grace as they walk this difficult path. Our hope is to give John peace of mind and the strength to keep fighting, knowing he’s surrounded by love and support.
Whether you can give $5 or $500, every dollar matters—and so does every prayer, every share of this page, and every word of encouragement. Together, we can make a life-changing difference for John and his family.
Thank you for standing with John in this battle. Let’s give him the hope and help he so deeply deserves!
