Help John Evanko's GBS Recovery
Donation protected
John Evanko admitted himself to the hospital on December 26th because of numbness and tingling in his extremities. Over the course of a few days, he quickly lost most motor functions and was moved to ICU and put on a ventilator. He was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare condition that can occur after a viral infection. Fortunately, his prognosis is good, and John has already shown signs of rapid improvement, and was moved out of ICU on January 5th.
There is a long road of recovery in front of him, but anyone who knows John knows that he'll attack rehab with discipline and competitiveness. This fundraiser is to help the Evankos as John recovers. The $5,500 covers their insurance deductible, and any money given above that will go towards 'unseen' medical expenses - trips to and from rehab, meals out, fitness equipment, etc. It can take months or even years to fully recover from GBS.
Thank you to all who have already reached out to see how they can help. As John was in the hospital not knowing his diagnosis, his mind was on Philippians 1:21-24:
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.
John is so confident in the good news that Jesus Christ died on the cross but was resurrected for the forgiveness of his sins, that for him death wasn't something to be feared. John's desire was torn between going to be with Christ or staying on your account. What that means is that if you're someone that John has shared the good news of Jesus with, the most meaningful thing you can do for him is to consider the claims that Jesus made about himself, specifically that he was God and the only way to be saved, and to talk to him about that as he recovers.
Thank you again, and please keep lifting the Evankos up in your prayers!
