Help John Dugas Recover From His Stroke

My name is Victoria Crosthwaite and I am creating this GoFundMe account on behalf of my mom, Christine Dugas and my stepdad, John Dugas, son of the late Rev. Phillip Dugas and the late Doris Dugas.

On Monday, January 15, 2024, John suffered a stroke due to blood clots in his brain.

John had surgery on Tuesday. He was unable to swallow and speak and could barely move the right side of his body. He is undergoing extensive procedures to check his heart for any possible blood clots. He will eventually be awaiting intensive physical, speech, and occupational therapy.

At home, John has a wife, Christine, and two children, Olivia and Johnny, for whom he is the main provider. Although doctors can't put a time frame on John's rehabilitation, they say it could take a year until he regains much of what he's lost. Christine works a part-time job but is no longer able to work so that she can be with her husband at the hospital. When he is well enough to come home she will need to be there 100% of the time as John will need required care as he can’t be left unattended for any amount of time.

His medical team has reported that therapies received during the first 6 months after having the stroke are the most crucial in achieving the best results in restoring John to as close to normal as possible. We definitely want to make sure John is afforded all of the necessary treatment he needs to get himself completely mobile again and be able to regain all of his cognitive functioning!
