Help John Dawson Jr. Fight AML While Stuck Abroad
Dear friends, family, and compassionate strangers,
Our world changed in an instant.
John Dawson Jr., my husband and the rock of our family, traveled to Asunción, Paraguay for work — but just days after arriving, he began to feel extremely sick. He visited the hospital on April 29th and was told it was likely a virus. But by Thursday, his condition had worsened significantly. He was severely swollen and began experiencing very unique and concerning symptoms that prompted doctors to begin urgent testing.
By Friday, May 2nd, we received the unthinkable: John was diagnosed with **Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML M4)** — a rare and aggressive blood cancer.
We had hoped to get him home to Spokane, WA, to begin treatment near family and support. Unfortunately, his doctors have told us that traveling in his condition is simply too risky. **John must begin treatment immediately in Paraguay**, where he’ll need to stay for at least 30 days, possibly longer depending on how his body responds.
As of May 4th, I am on my way to be by his side. We are now facing the unimaginable — not just emotionally, but financially.
Both John and I are self-employed. Our income supports our home, our children, and now, this sudden and costly medical emergency. Between treatment expenses, medications, extended stay in Paraguay, and keeping up with bills back home, we are stretched beyond capacity.
This is not easy to ask, but we know we need help.
We’re humbly asking for **donations to help cover:**
* Urgent medical treatment for AML in Paraguay
* Temporary housing (Airbnb) during his treatment
* Emergency flights and travel costs
* Ongoing household expenses while we are away
Thankfully, our children are safe and being cared for by our loving family while we’re away. But we need support to make sure John can fully focus on healing and getting home.
We’ve always tried to handle everything on our own — but now, we’re leaning on the love of our village.
If you’re able to contribute, every dollar helps us breathe a little easier. If you’re unable to donate, please share this post and keep John in your prayers. We will continue to post updates as we hear from doctors.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you. Your love, support, and prayers mean everything to us.
With deep gratitude,
Alexis Dawson
