Help John Cumbo and His Family on his Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Dear Family, Friends, and the Hamilton and Dunnville Communities ;
About a month ago John began to feel horrible pain behind his right knee which brought him to the hospital, went for many tests, and seen specialist. Within 3 days his condition became critical. He was forming clots in his leg, foot and aorta. the health care team did not know why but did there best to treat the clots. John was not response to treatment, he actually formed more clots instead of them going away. At this time we knew John was battling a life-altering illness.
As a result he went through multiple procedures in the hospital, including nine life-saving surgeries over six days. Despite the doctors’ incredible efforts, John had to have his lower right leg amputated to save his life. We are immensely grateful to the medical team for their dedication and to have John still with us.
John now faces a challenging journey ahead. He will need to learn to walk again using a prosthetic, navigate with a wheelchair, and adapt to other assistive devices. Both John and his wife have been unable to work during this time, leading to significant financial hardship as they do not have paid sick leave.
We are hopeful that John will be released from the hospital this week to reunite with his family and begin his healing journey at home. His wife will be his primary caregiver at home while they await for his admission into impatient rehab at the Hamilton General Hospital.
This journey is difficult and long, but John is motivated to get back to regular life. He can't wait to get back out hunting, taking his nephews fishing, going for walks and bike rides with his little girl, and of course get back to making delicious food for his family.
Many people in our community, family, and friends have asked how they can help. At this time, the most helpful support would be healing prayers and positive thoughts for John’s strength, wisdom, and patience as he embarks on this new path. John also loves visits from family and friends, this is what is getting him through each day. If you want to reach out on Facebook to send your well wishes or just comment on this account this will also help brighten his day.
We are also seeking financial support to help cover medical expenses and daily living costs during this challenging time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference.
On Behalf of John Cumbo and his family we thank you for your kindness and generosity.
