Help John and Christine Cherish Their Time

UPDATE and new plea for your help

to John's many friends, rowers, colleagues, relatives and supporters.

I fear the news is not good for John, in fact the news could hardly be worse.

You may know  he was deemed ineligible to receive a heart transplant because of complications he suffered before and during his stay in the hospital.

He and Christine went to three hospitals that specialize in high risk transplants but they also turned him down.

John's also ineligible for an external or internal mechanical heart pump.

Unfortunately, after almost 3 months of grueling time in the hospital, the doctors have given up and sent John home.

He's ineligible for hospice because he's still receiving infusions to keep his failed heart pumping.

John, being John, he's working hard to keep everyone's spirits up, visiting with friends and taking fullest advantage of the time he has left.

His finances and tge generous donations you made have been drained by the hospital stay and Christine missing work.

Their greatest need now is to spend as much time together as possible.

Christine's personal and  vacation time are long gone so any time missing work is now without pay.

Also, GVSU has invited John out to Michigan for a fall boat christening in his honor.

John can't fly because his heart can't handle any pressurization, or even to go to an altitude of 5,000 feet or above

They need to take the train and really need an expensive roomette so he can stretch out.

For these and so many other reasons, I'm turning again to you, the people who've been touched by his love throughout the years.
