My uncle John and his fiancé, Kandi, lost their home in the Medford, Oregon fires this week. They are expecting a baby girl in the upcoming months and have lost everything. 

Many of you who know me know that my uncle John lived with us in Simi Valley growing up and was a huge part of my life. He helped me with many school projects, built fun treehouses and water balloon sling shots for the neighborhood kids, and was my concert buddy in my early 20s. John was a staple in our tight-knit neighborhood as the resident handyman and tech wiz. 

John had made his way up north to the Medford area a few years ago. He met Kandi not too long after that. They had begun to build their lives together with their three dogs, two cats, and bunny rabbit. Last year, John proposed to Kandi in Kona, Hawaii. And earlier this year, they found out they were expecting their family to grow a bit more with the arrival of their baby girl in the fall. 

The fire came in very fast, and John was able to grab as much as he could when the evacuation order was given while Kandi was at work. He was unable to grab everything though, including their two cats and bunny rabbit, and their brand new baby stroller they had saved up for. The photo above was taken the next day when John was allowed to go back in once the fire was out.

Now with the uncertainty of where they are going to live, and with Kandi’s high-risk pregnancy, I can not imagine what they are going through, but I hope this fundraiser can help relieve some of their stresses. The money would be used to help get them back on their feet before the baby comes.
