Help Johannes Fight Gallbladder Cancer

My name is Johannes Allen Sanchez Castillo. Just a year ago, I was living a beautiful life with my wife and our two kids. We were building our dreams together, enjoying every moment, and planning for the future like any other family. I never imagined how quickly life could change.
In April 2024, I started feeling slight discomfort, something I thought was no more than a muscle strain. But after a checkup and an ultrasound, doctors found my gallbladder full of stones and inflamed. I had surgery the next month, thinking it was a routine procedure. But life had other plans.
After the gallbladder was removed, pathology results revealed the devastating news: gallbladder cancer. In that moment, my world collapsed. The thought of not being there to see my children grow, guide them, and support them crushed me.
Determined to fight, I underwent a major liver surgery (hepatectomy) in July, where two segments of my liver and several lymph nodes were removed. Unfortunately, one lymph node tested positive, confirming the cancer had started to spread.
Despite everything, I’ve held onto hope. With the support of my family and friends, I completed 8 cycles of chemotherapy. I was lucky that my body handled it well, and I stayed strong through treatment.
But my battle isn’t over. Recent tests showed concerning markers, and now cancer has reached some bones. My medical team is urging me to begin radiotherapy and targeted therapy immediately, along with advanced testing such as Foundation One to identify the best personalized treatment options. Clinical trials abroad are also being considered as part of my fight to survive.
Up until now, I’ve been able to cover my treatments thanks to my work and my savings. But after 180 days, Colombia’s public health system no longer provides financial support for my medical leave.
With each passing day, my resources are depleting, and I find myself facing impossible costs for the treatments that could give me more time with my family.

I never imagined I'd be writing a message like this. I’m not someone who easily asks for help, but today I find myself needing the kindness of others. My greatest wish is to have the chance to keep fighting, to keep raising my kids, and to give them the future they deserve with their father by their side.

Mi nombre es Johannes Allen Sánchez Castillo. Hace apenas un año, vivía una vida tranquila y feliz junto a mi esposa y nuestros dos hijos. Compartíamos sueños, planes y momentos llenos de amor, sin imaginar cómo todo podía cambiar de un momento a otro.
En abril de 2024, comencé a sentir una pequeña molestia. Pensé que sería una contractura muscular, algo sin importancia, pero decidí hacerme un chequeo para estar seguro. Después de algunos exámenes, los médicos encontraron mi vesícula llena de cálculos e inflamación. Me realizaron una cirugía en mayo para extraerla, pensando que sería algo rutinario. Pero la vida me dio un golpe inesperado.
La biopsia de la vesícula reveló la peor noticia: cáncer de vesícula biliar. Sentí cómo mi mundo se derrumbaba. Pensar en no estar para ver crecer a mis hijos, apoyarlos y guiarlos, fue devastador.
Con toda la fuerza y esperanza, continué luchando. En julio me sometí a una cirugía mayor en el hígado (hepatectomía), donde me retiraron dos segmentos y varios ganglios linfáticos.
Lamentablemente, uno de los ganglios resultó positivo, confirmando que el cáncer ya había comenzado a extenderse.
A pesar de todo, me mantuve firme. Gracias al apoyo de mi familia y amigos, logré completar 8 ciclos de quimioterapia. Mi cuerpo respondió mejor de lo esperado, y pude mantenerme fuerte durante el tratamiento.
Sin embargo, la lucha continúa. Los últimos exámenes mostraron resultados preocupantes y, ahora, el cáncer ha llegado a algunos huesos. Mis médicos me recomiendan iniciar cuanto antes radioterapia y terapia dirigida, además de pruebas avanzadas como Foundation One, que permitirán encontrar opciones personalizadas para mi tratamiento. También estamos considerando participar en ensayos clínicos fuera del país como parte de esta batalla por mi vida.
Hasta hoy he podido cubrir los gastos médicos gracias a mis ahorros y mi trabajo, pero después de 180 días, el sistema de salud pública en Colombia dejó de brindarme apoyo económico. Cada día que pasa se vuelve más difícil costear los tratamientos que me permitirán seguir luchando por más tiempo al lado de mi familia. Mi historia medica se puede encontrar aquí:

Nunca imaginé estar en esta situación, pidiendo ayuda. No soy una persona que suela hacerlo, pero hoy recurro a ustedes con humildad y esperanza. Mi mayor deseo es tener la oportunidad de seguir aquí, de criar a mis hijos y de ofrecerles el futuro que merecen, con su padre presente.
