Hi there! My name is Joey and I'm a Cornish 22 year old. I'm a trans barista currently residing in Manchester, currently arranging my Periareolar Mastectomy for January 2026. Being able to go through with this surgery will not only help me mentally, binding has taken a toll on my physical health from working on my feet 40 hours a week. Without opportunities to rest for an hour or two between the day I have no choice but to wear my binder for around 11 hours a day, leaving my back in constant turmoil.

In the wake of my Dad's death in January, I have realised that life is too short to be scared of the future! This surgery is something I have been putting off for about 5 years because of the costs but I'm not going to let it stop me from living my life anymore. I want to go on long walks with my friends and my amazing partner, I want to be able to go swimming in the sea and just enjoy sunny days without thinking about what's going on underneath my shirt.

My workplace has been so incredibly kind to me and have given me so much support through these last few years of being with them; ESPECIALLY the last 2 months. I have been given so many new opportunities in what I thought would be a very short life of feeling insecure and alone. Feeling heard and loved has boosted my quality of life so much, making it even more exciting to see this huge step on the horizon.

Even though I work so much, unfortunately the cost of living crisis forces me to live pay check to pay check leaving me no room to save money on the side. I have been in contact with a Spanish surgeon who I have chosen to do my procedure so this fundraiser includes travel and accommodation costs. This sum is still less than the £9k minimum for top surgery here in the UK. It is time to grab 2025 by the (metaphorical) balls and get my life back together after one of the worst starts to the year anyone could ask for.
