Joel and Hannah are home! Joel is staying busy now that he is back home. Hannah is bringing him to Physical Therapy and she is getting him out as much as possible. They have been attending sporting events and visiting friends. He has loved seeing everyone and is happy to be back home, however, he still requires 24 hour care. Hannah will need to purchase equipment to make sure Joel has everything he needs to get the proper care that is required for him at home. Thank you all for the dontations, prayers, and well wishes and please keep them coming.
Update 9/11/25:
For those who don't know, Joel suffered a devastating gunshot wound to the back of his head. The bullet shattered his jaw and left him unable to move from the neck down. Since the incident, he has undergone multiple surgeries — including the placement
of a feeding tube and a tracheostomy — but through it all, Joel has shown incredible strength and resilience.
Today, Joel is breathing mostly on his own and is fully alert, he was communicating mostly through lip reading. After the doctors preformed surgery on his jaw and removed the rubberbands that held it in place, he was miraculously able to speak some , which was not expected! Though he cannot move his body at this time, his mind is sharp.
The next phase of Joel’s journey has begun as they are now in New Orleans, LA, where his devoted mother, Hannah, will undergo extensive training to learn how to care for him. Joel will also begin essential therapies aimed at giving him the best possible quality of life.
Their road ahead is long and costly.
When Joel and Hannah return home, they will need to move into a fully handicap-accessible home to support his daily needs. This includes specialized equipment, home modifications, and long-term care resources that aren’t fully covered by insurance.
If you have not donated, please consider doing so to help alleviate some of their expenses.
