Hello family and friends,

 

As some of you may already know, about a month and a half ago, Joel was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer after a visit to the emergency room for an unrelated reason. It was then that we were informed of a mass on the head of his pancreas leading to the confirmed diagnosis and the need for an immediate surgery. On December 1st, he underwent a Whipple surgery where they were able to successfully remove the cancerous tumor. This was a major surgery that has taken a tremendous toll on Joel’s body. Unfortunately, while the tumor was removed, there has been a multitude of complications as a result of the surgery. We initially anticipated being medically released shortly after the surgery completion, but because of the severity of these complications, we are still in the hospital after over a month. We are working through his complications one day at a time.

 

In all transparency, this has been grandly challenging to work through – emotionally, physically, and now financially. While Joel has insurance, the out-of-pocket medical bills are rapidly piling up and to mitigate the worry of finances during this trying time, we thought it best and necessary to ask for support from our family and friends. All financial donations, of any amount, would be deeply appreciated and will work to aid Joel’s medical expenses.

 

While we never imagined this is what our new year would look like, those that know Joel, know his humorous energy and loving spirit are unmatched. He is continuing to fight this as best he can. We thank you in advance for all your support.
