Hi everyone! My name is Katrina and I am the sister to Joel Garcia. Joel was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia a couple of years. This condition occurs when your body stops producing enough new blood cells. The condition leaves you fatigued and more prone to infections and uncontrolled bleeding.
The last couple of years he has been receiving plasma transfusions to maintain this condition but unfortunately those transfusions are a temporary solution.
On February 9th 2021, Joel went a facility to receive a stem cell transplant. This procedure will enable Joel to produce white blood cells to fight infection, red blood cells to carry oxygen to and remove waste and platelets to help clot the blood.
Prior to receive the stem cell transplant, Joel is being given chemotherapy to destroy old stem cells and make room for the healthy new ones!
You can read more about this treatment here:

As you can only imagine, this disease has taken a toll not only physically and mentally but also financially. Prior to the pandemic Joel had to take more days to rest and then as the pandemic hit, opportunities for work have decreased tremendously for Joel.
This condition requires medications and treatments that are very expensive, including this transplant.
Joel is my only brother, my hero and my protector. He would give me the entire world if he could, as I would to him. As a family, we are doing everything we can to support Joel through this process. For me personally, living in NYC and he in Texas I can only do so much.
Regardless of this condition, he continues to be an amazing son, brother, father and future grandfather! He love to attend his son's baseball games, take his daughter shopping and go out to eat with his eldest. He loves his nephew fiercely. We are very lucky to have him in our lives.
We are asking you today to please help any way you can. These funds would support buying medicine and basic necessities, while Joel is recovering and quarantining after the procedure.
He won't be able to leave his house because his immune system will be very low as the treatment begins to take affect.
I know that 2020 and beyond is a difficult time for everyone. If you can, any amount will help!
If you can't support financially, we ask that you pray. Keep Joel in your prayers.
We love to welcome any messages of support and love.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
- Jeremiah 29:11
“‘But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the LORD…”
— Jeremiah 30:17
With Love and light,
Katrina
