We are going through an incredibly difficult time and with a heavy heart and I am humbly reaching out to ask for your compassion and support.
On April 6th, my youngest brother Joel suffered a massive stroke that changed his life and the lives of his family forever. Since that day, Joel has been in the ICU enduring life-threatening complications and invasive treatments. He has undergone craniectomy, a major surgery to relieve swelling in his brain. He is now battling severe pneumonia, sepsis and acute kidney failure. To combat the aggressive infection he was placed on a specialized antibiotics that cost over $10,000 (P560,000) for a one-week course - administered every 8 hours at $200 (P11,000).
Joel is currently on a ventilator, has had a tracheostomy, and is going through temporary dialysis to support his organs while he recovers. His condition is critical but stable and still requires lifesaving medications as he battles one complication to another. Joel’s medications are paid out of pocket, because it reached a point where our family couldn't keep up with hospital bills anymore. The hospital put his account on hold -meaning his lab works, medications and other necessary procedures wouldn’t be given without immediate payment in cash.
As of May 25, 2025 his hospital bills have already surpassed ₱2.0 million ($40k)—excluding out of pocket expenses, dialysis and professional fees.
Joel's wife, Mariefel, is a devoted schoolteacher, who has put her career on hold to care for him full-time. Their two sons in middle and high school were by his side at the hospital giving their support in any way they can, showing maturity beyond their years. For us this is a family tragedy that seems to be happening all over again. We lost our mother due to stroke when Joel was only eighteen years old. Joel's oldest is only 16 while the youngest is only 14 and we never want them to experience the same.
Despite our family's relentless efforts to support our brother financially, we have now reached a point of overwhelming financial hardship. We urgently need help to cover:
• Hospital bills and essential medications
• Rehabilitation therapies needed for Joel’s recovery
• Living expenses while his wife Mariefel cares for Joel and unable to work
If you’re able to contribute, no amount is too small. Every dollar (peso) counts and brings us closer to getting him the care he desperately needs.
This fundraiser is a lifeline for Joel and his family. Every donation no matter how small will make a meaningful difference to bring Joel closer to the care he desperately needs to survive and heal. Please consider donating and sharing this message to others who may be willing to help. Above all please keep Joel in your prayers for healing, strength and hope .
From our entire family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your support means a lot to us..
