Hi, my name is Joel. 13 months ago, I lost my job after a flourishing 24 year career in the hospitality industry. I was making a healthy salary, helped to employ and mentor hundreds of young leaders in the industry and stayed very involved in community. I supported many different charities personally and professionally, sat on multiple boards and actively stayed involved with different entities in our community that supported Indigenous, Immigrant and impoverished populations in our city. Unfortunately, I was not really provided a severance that was reflective of my time and contribution to the company I was with. Over the last year, I have lived off of that small severance, savings, cashed out RRSPs, cashed out dividends from a life insurance policy, loans from family and EI benefits that exhausted in April. I support two homes, as I am split from my ex-wife. She continues to do an amazing job with our two daughters during this difficult time and I have continued to support two homes, paying in excess of $3000 in monthly spousal and child support. I have applied for 105+ jobs in the last year with many interviews, assessments, "almosts", but unfortunately to no avail thus far in this difficult job market. I am now exploring selling my home, but am really uncertain what happens next in this current rental market and with my funds running out very soon in the next few weeks. I am hopeful you might help me out with anything you can.
