I’ve never done anything like this before, and honestly, I feel embarrassed to even ask. But it’s so hard to see my husband, Joel, in so much pain and feel powerless to help. About eight months ago, Joel started experiencing severe back pain. After seeing a specialist, he was diagnosed with a bulged disk and arthritis in his back, which has now escalated to degenerative disk disease. Physical therapy only made things worse, and he’s been told not to lift more than 10 lbs. The pain has gotten so bad that he’s missing work and can’t sit, stand, or walk for very long. He’s in constant pain, no matter what position he’s in.
We were hoping Joel could have an approved surgery, even though there’s no guarantee it will work. Unfortunately, with enhanced government healthcare subsidies being removed, even our employer insurance co-pays have increased substantially. The out-of-pocket cost for the outpatient procedure is more than we can manage right now. On top of that, it looks like Joel will be medically released from the military sometime this year, and he’ll lose his civilian DOD position as well. He may not even be able to work afterwards, because the constant pain doesn’t allow him to do much. Our daughter has been experiencing ongoing health problems too, so much of our extra monthly finances have been going to her care. We even took out a loan to repay some of her larger medical bills, but unfortunately, that’s not an option again.
The funds raised will go directly toward Joel’s surgery, which is his best chance at relief and recovery. Anything you can do will be much appreciated by our family. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this with others, or just send a prayer for my husband. We believe prayers can go a long way.
