Hi everyone,
My name is Joel Ramos, I am an international student from Honduras. I am currently enrolled in Northwestern State University of Louisiana as a music major, I play the oboe and my degree is in music business.
My musical journey started back in Honduras San Pedro Sula, at the age of 15 in Escuela de Música Victoriano Lopez where I learned the fundamentals of classical music and discovered a deep passion for the oboe. Sadly, I realized that classical music was not well supported in my country, which lead me to seek a musical career in the United States.
My first school year my parents were not able to send me money because they were getting out of covid and recovering financially. This caused me to get a balance for that year, and it has now become a financial hold, despite the scholarships I received through the music department. As an international student we are only allowed to work on campus 20 hours a week, which is barely enough to pay my rent and bills. My dad has been able to help me with a monthly allowance for school but it is not enough to pay for the $10,000 balance from my first year at NSU. Since I have a financial hold, I am not allowed to register for classes and continue my studies. I have filed exemptions and appeals but nothing has worked since the balance is so large. The school is telling me they don’t have additional funding and I don’t qualify for any form of federal aid or loans. I have prayed and talked with friends about what to do and it seemed my best option was to share my story with everyone and see if anyone would be open to help me in anyway possible.
Thank you so much for reading. Any help is deeply appreciated. Needless to say, anything we collect from here will be transferred directly to my student account.
Unfortunately, NSU doesn’t take phone payments. If you want to pay directly to NSU you can fill this form and mail. In name you can fill “Joel Ramos Alvarado” and in CWID: “200345453”. https://documentproviderviewer.nsula.edu/?id=13227
