Help Joel and his family through Cancer and Covid.
Donation protected
In March 2019, Keira at almost three years of age, was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) described as conditions that occur when blood-forming cells in the bone marrow become abnormal. This diagnosis followed several years of long drawn out cancer treatments including: bone marrow transplants in September 2019 & June 2020. Joel and Carl (Keira’s brother) each underwent the bone marrow donation treatments in the hopes of saving Keira’s life. Keira and her parents Joel & Mary Jane have spent years traveling back and forth to Calgary Children’s hospital for these very specific care and treatments.

By the end of February 2021 Keira’s team of doctors declared she had Leukemia. On March 2nd doctors stated, Keira has only a few weeks to live. All of this has gone on during the Covid-19 pandemic where the family has been as careful as possible. Sent home at this point, on March 4th Joel and then on March 5th Mary Jane were confirmed to have contracted Covid-19. On March 10th, Keira too was diagnosed with Covid-19. More sad news, on March 12th Joel was admitted to hospital (now released March 14th) suffering with difficulty breathing.
These donations will be going towards ongoing medical costs and fees, as well as travel costs, living expenses, and dire financial expenses.
Joel has worked with our team at Alliance Building Maintenance for the past few years. He has continued to provide for his family (2 older children), make trips back and forth to Calgary and maintain unwavering prayers and hope for Keira’s recovery. Our hearts and prayers are with the entire family and we hope to reach as many as possible through the GoFundMe campaign. If you are not able to donate, perhaps you can share this with others in the community that are able to do so. Thank you for your support.
