Help Joe and his family!

Dear Family and Friends,

I am Szilvia Kammerer and I am writing to you about my dear friend, Joe Szilagyi.

Joe is a wonderful person, a devoted husband to his wife, Tunde, an amazing father to their three children, and a caring chiropractor to his patients, who he has been helping to heal and feel better for decades.

As many of you know, Joe has suffered from hereditary polycystic kidney disease for years now. There are no treatment options for Joe’s condition and his kidneys deteriorated over time to the point of needing dialysis despite all the efforts to keep them healthy. If Joe had to be on dialysis, he would not have been able to continue to live his normal life, being a devoted chiropractor and family man. The only way to avoid dialysis and have Joe keep living his life at its fullest potential is to receive a kidney from a donor. However, finding a kidney for a transplant is not easy with 100,000+ patients on the waiting list with a minimum of five years wait times! Joe’s kidneys did not have years to wait, he needed one now.

Joe’s wife, Tunde, has become his donor and together they went through a kidney transplant. Joe lost both of his kidneys while gaining one from his beloved wife. It truly was a selfless act that has been made from pure love for each other. While Joe has received a much-needed kidney, their journey is far from over. With Joe being the breadwinner in the family and the amount of recovery time and care he and Tunde will need, he will be unable to work for at least two-three months post-surgery. Being self-employed, they are not getting any financial support from an employer. They have two children in college and the everyday expenses and preparations for the life-saving transplant surgery have put them in a financial hardship.
