Hello, my name is Ashley. I’m the mother of Joe’s beautiful 14 year old daughter, Neytiri.

This past year has been devastating for Joe. After being diagnosed with a brain tumor, non-cancerous but aggressively debilitating, his world began to fall apart. He lost his job, his home, and now, even his ability to speak, move, and perform the basic daily tasks most of us take for granted.

For the past six months, Joe has been living in a homeless shelter with nothing but the clothes on his back and a small fanny pack. He’s been robbed and isolated, with no phone, slowly deteriorating in silence.

On July 12th, staff at the shelter brought him to the emergency room after noticing he hadn’t spoken, eaten, or responded for days. When he arrived at the hospital, he couldn’t remember the year, his location, or even speak more than a few strained words. Thankfully, in his bag was a photo of our daughter and some handwritten phone numbers, just enough for the hospital to contact me.

Joe will be undergoing a major brain surgery this Tuesday to remove the tumor. While we are grateful the procedure is being treated as an emergency so Medicaid can cover the cost, the reality is he will have nothing once he is discharged. No home. No phone. No clothes. Nowhere to go.

I’m asking for your help to give Joe a second chance at life. The funds raised will go toward:

• Securing a studio apartment

• Basic living essentials: food, clothing, bedding, toiletries

• A bed to recover in

• Help while he rebuilds stability for himself

Joe came to the U.S. from Thailand and has no family here other than our daughter. She is his whole world. We just want to help him get back on his feet and ensure he has the support he needs to recover.
