Help Joe McCann with Medical and Living Expenses

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Joe McCann.

On October 8th, I broke my ankle in a low-speed skateboarding accident. I bailed weird and broke my fibula. I took an ambulance to St. Michael's Hospital, and they set the break, splinted it, and lined me up for a follow-up.

Upon leaving the hospital, my ride and I went to an ampm for some things as I was in the hospital for quite a while. In the ampm, the floors were freshly mopped, but I didn't notice until I was inside. There were no wet floor signs. As careful as I was in there, my crutches slipped out on the wet floors, and I put my weight on the freshly broken ankle, causing it to go sideways again. With great effort and help from my ride, we managed to get me back into the car to go back to the hospital.

When we got back to the hospital, X-rays now showed 3 breaks, and the doctors were unable to set my breaks. I was scheduled with an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon the next morning, and they determined the breaks were unstable and the swelling unfit for stabilizing it, so I went into surgery for an external fixation. I stayed the night and just got home today.

The initial break I received papers saying I could return to work after 4 weeks. I've now been informed I won't be able to work for 4 to 6 months. I'm in talks with lawyers to address the ampm incident, and I'll be signing up for the PFML program through the state of Washington.

In the meantime, I have rent due and no avenue to pay it now. I'll be having medical bills and regular bills. I'm going to try to sell my car to allow me to float a little bit.

Unfortunately, I'm in a position to ask for help from my community and beyond. Not something I feel comfortable with, but I have no choice. Any resolution with ampm will take quite some time, but I don't have the option to delay rent payments or the ability to go anywhere else if I can't make rent.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

11/2 update : surgery complete, 3 plates and more screws than i can count. Working on getting to managable pain levels before discharge
