Help Joe in his fight against cancer

Hi, my name is Camilo, but a lot of people call me Melo.

I'm simply a 24-year-old man who's lived in Bethesda, MD, for most of his life.

I lost my dad at a young age. My mom has always done her best to give me a great life.

 

I've met many people in Bethesda, whether working at Black's Bar and Kitchen or socializing around town.

 

Years ago, I met a young man (though older than I) named Joe Cherry. Joe was a manager at Bold Bite. He would hook me up with discounted chocolate shakes.

 

Bold Bite closed, and Joe got a job at a sushi spot. It seemed like it wasn't working out, so one day, I approached Joe and offered to put in a word for him at my job. One thing led to another, and he secured a career at Black's.

 

I’m profoundly grateful to have my mom, and I’ve told my friends who still have their parents to be thankful and cherish their moments because nothing, especially life, lasts forever. Tonight, I celebrated Joe's 31st birthday with him, and now I sit typing in front of my laptop on the verge of tears, thinking he may not get to his 32nd. I feel like he has so much of his life ahead of him, and all he can see is a few feet forward because he is struggling to pay for cancer treatments by working himself to the bone.

 

Joe is like a brother to me. He is the hardest worker I know and one of the sweetest guys I know. He’s a kind and dedicated man. He got dealt a poor hand and has refused to give up.

 

Everything raised by this fundraiser will help cover medical bills associated with Joe's cancer treatment. He’s stayed so positive in the face of this illness, and I believe that he will survive and thrive past this chapter of his life with support from his friends, his community, and hopefully you.
