When he was initially diagnosed in May, it really shook my world and everyone around us. However, his demeanor through his diagnoses and adjustment to a life with MS has been nothing short of inspiring. Instead of showing understandable signs of fear, or even bitterness, he has remained so optimistic and unaffected.
While conventional medicine can work to some degree to ease symptoms through prescription medication, there is no pill or easy fix to reverse MS. We want to dive in deep and find the root cause of his condition, pursuing a more holistic approach through the methods of functional medicine. That is why we are asking for your help - so Joe can learn how he came to this point in developing this disease and hopefully put it into remission.
Functional medicine looks at a patient from a whole body perspective. It goes beyond conventional testing to find chronic infections, imbalances, and toxins. These chronic problems exhaust the immune system, which causes it to malfunction and attack it's own body – and in Joe's case, his myelin sheath. Many individuals who suffer from MS have used functional medicine to reverse their disease. This approach is really on the cutting edge in treating chronic diseases, and is a real beacon of hope for Joe to heal himself and lead a normal life. I can attest to the effectiveness of functional medicine as I have reversed several symptoms of my autoimmune disorder over just the last year, all of which would have most likely gone undiscovered or untreated through conventional medicine.Unfortunately, insurance does not cover this type of treatment and it is 100% out of pocket for us.
He does not show it, but some days he really suffers from severe fatigue and weakness, with constant numbness and tingling in his extremities. His symptoms are capable of affecting his every day life, and are already limiting his ability to do things most of us don’t think twice about. Please find it in your heart to help give my brother the chance to build a life with his soon-to-be wife and continue to do great things for others. I want more than anything for Joe to live a full and healthy life, able to pursue his passions wholeheartedly – and do so free of MS.
