Help Joe Fight Central Nervous System Lymphoma

Donation protected
Heather Arias, my partner and BoardRoom Magazine's creative director, received the news that her husband, Joe, was diagnosed in early December with primary central nervous system lymphoma, after a tumor was discover in his basal ganglia portion of his brain.

This is a rare and aggressive form of lymphoma that requires immediate and aggressive treatment. Joe has already received his first chemo treatment. He was discharged on Dec. 21 and able to spend a few days with his family. On Dec. 23rd, he started having small seizures and was readmitted to the hospital.

Joe's in the hospital now with low sodium levels which puts him at risk for seizures. He’s also COVID positive, which puts him in a high risk category. Joe was readmitted to the hospital with COVID January 5th. The combination of these factors pushed out his next chemo treatment, which was scheduled for Jan. 3. No new date has been established for a resumption of chemo treatments.

In between chemo treatments, Joe will require in home care because of his cognitive impairment and short term memory loss. He requires guidance throughout the day, and although he's physically capable of taking care of some of his needs, he’s impulsive and requires re-direction for his safety and comfort.

At the end of his chemo, which will last about four months, we’re hopeful he’ll regain some of his cognitive reasoning and short term memory and it’s our hope that at the end of these treatments he’ll enter into remission.

The priority at the moment is Joe’s response to treatment and his comfort and happiness. Once he is home he will need in-home support and any funds raised will go toward long term care so that Heather, Kaden and Kaiya can continue to work.

For those who don’t know Joe, he’s a licensed commercial architect who’s been working on projects in California and Hawaii. In fact, it was his job that took the family to Hawaii in 2013. We know he’s hopeful he can get back to work one day because architecture is truly his passion.
