My name is Joe Simonetta, and I’m an 81-year-old triathlete (nearly 82) who won the gold medal in the 80-84 age group at the 2023 U.S. National Senior Games Sprint Triathlon in Pittsburgh, PA—the very first triathlon I ever competed in.

This year, the 2025 U.S. National Senior Games will be held on August 1st in Des Moines, Iowa, and I had been training with great dedication to compete again. However, due to a serious financial setback—specifically, a person defaulting on a substantial financial obligation to me—I now cannot afford to make the trip.
