Help Joe Broken Back Colapsed Lung

Donation protected
My name is Joe Marlay, some of my friends call me Gnarly Marlay.  For the past year I've been working hard to build a business for myself to pay  bills and improve my situation.    Recently I purchased a new (used) car.

Working full time as a self employed worker, I haven't had much free time to enjoy the awesome mountain area where I live.

On Monday November 5th I took my new (used) car for a drive up Burma Grade.  Burma Grade is an incredibly steep dirt road that switchbacks up from the Merced river to the rim of the canyon that later becomes Yosemite Valley.

The top of Burma Grade has fire lines from bull dozers next to the road.   For people who don't know me well, I am a pilot and I fly regularly for work and fun over the mountainous area around Yosemite.   The road and dozer lines on the top of Burma Grade could be a suitable place to land a small airplane, but the only way to know for sure would be to drive up in my new (used) car and check out the area.

After watching the sunset on the top of Burma Grade, I drove back down towards the Merced River.  The drive was mellow but steep with switch backs.  On a long straight away, something went wrong with my vehicle and I was pulled off the road.

The next part of the story is why I need your help.

My vehicle was tumbling down Burma Grade.  I had my seat belt on but was somehow ejected as the roof of my new car was ripped off.  My shoes were ripped from my feet with all other person belongings.  I woke up with my car gone laying uncomfortably in an unknown place.  I tried to go back to sleep but kept waking up in the same uncomfortable place.

I decided I needed to rescue myself.  4 hours of crawling, unable to breathe and bleeding profusely from my head I finally made it back down to HWY 140 and was able to make contact with Dave greenwood a BLM ranger who saved my life.  I was helicoptered to the DR.S Medical Center in Modesto.  I have 6 broken vertebrae, a collapsed lung, 20 staples holding my head skin together, and 4 broken ribs.  I was lucky to have been ejected from my car as the vehicle flew off a cliff shortly after my exit. My big toe-toe nail was also ripped off my toe in the crash.

Please support me during this difficult time in my life.  I appreciate any donation that will help with my recovery.

Thank you,

-Joe
