As some of you might know, my brother, Joe Adams, has been diagnosed with a rare platelet disorder (Amegakaryocytic Thrombocytopenic). His bone marrow is basically not making platelets (platelets are the stuff that helps us clot when we bleed). He has tried many treatments that have failed. He currently has to get platelets once or twice a week just to have platelets in his body. The doctors have decided that a bone marrow transplant or stem cell transplant is his best option. He will be admitted to UC Davis in the middle of January and will be there for at least a month. After that, he will have to stay in a hotel close to UC Davis for at least 2 months.
Joe has not complained through this whole process. He gets lab work done twice a week, goes to multiple doctor’s appointments, and spends time weekly getting platelets. He is the kindest, most giving, and hardworking person I know.
My brother has started to struggle financially with all these costs incurred by his medical treatment. He has medical copays for treatment. They will have to pay the cost of a hotel for 2 months. Parking at UC Davis is $185 a month alone. He will be out of work for the 3 months as well.
If you find it in your heart to help my brother Joe with some of these costs, I know he would be tremendously grateful. Even just a small amount could make a difference. If you cannot afford a donation, words of encouragement, a phone call or text, a note or card, or a prayer are greatly appreciated.
